CLEVER BUT MEAN.

Two professional cricketers .were once playing for a team, who were matched against twenty-two players. The ground was attached to an iuiv, and swings, cocoanut stands, and similar attractions were provided for the enjoyment of the villagers, and occupied one portion of the field. The match was particularly exciting, and the twenty-two had nearly won when a ball was knocked in the region of the cocoanuts. Away sprinted the batsmen, hopeful of winning. One of the professionals, however was fielding near the cocoanuts. He failed to stop the ball, but a happy, inspiration seized him. He picked up a smooth little cocoanut, and sent it straight into the bands of the other professional, who was keeping wicket. The latter whipped off the bails, and smilingly pocketed the nut. The eleven swaggered back to the pavilion with a win credit, and the twenty-two,y wholly'ignorant of , the trick played upon them, meekly accepted th ‘ A feat.
