HAREOR BOARD.

The Harbor Board met this afternoon. The Hon. Hugh Gourley was m the chair, and there were also present Messrs J. Robin, T. Ross, W. Barclay, J. Thomson, J. Watson, and the Hon. T. Fergus. —The Bank Book.— The bank book, laid on the table, showed a credit balance of £5,787 9s 9d. —A Deputation.—

Mr F. G. Cray, Mayor of West Harbor, waited as a deputation from the Council of that borouyh to urge upon the Harbor Boird the advisability of their setting aside a portion of their recreation reserve at Ravensbourne for settlement purposes. There seemed to be some objections to anything being done at present owing to railway difricu.ties in the way. He had assurance from several people that they would be willing to take up sections. One objection was that the railway prevented any proper approach. The Government made no move, and he submitted that the Harbor Board might take such steps as he suggested, and so, perhaps, force the hands of the Government. He pointed out also that while the land was lying idle it was not lemunerative, and West Harbor Borough was stagnated somewhat because of it. Also the settlement of the land would finally dispose of the question of removal of sand and injury to the land.

The Chairman said that the matter would he taken into con.'idcrution, but he reminded Mr Cray that Riven; bourne's representatives on the Board had" always t.ren urging the Board to have this kind sr-t apart for settlement. Then a deputation from Raven-bourne waited on them and asked for a portion of it for a recriatiou ground. That portion had now been set as.de and fenced. Ravensbourne wa> pot neglected. The Harbor Board were quite as anxious to make money out .c? tiiidr reserves as the deputation could or to toil them, and in h-s opinion it w-iul-l he the height of fo'iv to now.
