GREATER DUNEDIN.

TO THE EDITOK. Sir, —The suburban councils have, I believe, virtually refused to contribute to the cost of the inquiry which the "-Amalgamation Committee" were elected to prosecute. At the public meeting held in the Agricultural Hall one or two suburban representatives took objection to the personnel .of the Committee, and I think it may be said that they voiced, to some extent, the minds of the majority of suburban councillors. Hence, probably, their objection to contribute to the cost of the inquiry. Personally, I am of opinion that the Committee set np is-one that should command the respect and confidence of all. But at the isame time, seeing that the city solicitor is one of its members, I think it would be wise—wise, because it would disarm whatever suspicion exists—if Mr Sim's name were added to the list. It is unnecessary, lam sure, for me to enlarge on the special qualifications of the above-named gentleman, snd I would earnestly ask that steps be taken to ensure his co-operation. What the majority of the people want is a clear, unbiased statement of facts laid before them—but they must have full confidence in the personnel of the Committee. w I must apologise to Mr Sim for mentionrag his name, and I may alto state that I do not know whether' he would be willing to act if approached.—l am, etc, „,_.., W. S. Bedford. St. Clan-, July 21.
