The Highcliff School Committee have *a* commended Miss Hodges for appointment aa mistress. On Saturday Mr John M'Guire, one at the oldest employees of the Otago Harbor Board, who is about to retire after twentyfive years' service, was the recipient of m gold chain and pendant and a silver-mounted walking stick from his comrades, to made the high estesm in which he is held by them. Mr Douglas, dredge-master of ?22 dTedge, made the presentation, and Mj» M'Guire suitably replied.
