MAGISTRATE'S COURT. (Before E. H. Carew, Esq., S.M.) The usual batch of undefended cases were decided in favor of plaintiffs as follow—cs Neil (Mr Ada -ms) v. Edwin Wells (Aelson), for £ls 2s, on promissory! note, with £1 10b 6d costs; R. H. Osten (Mr Bare ay) v. Wm. S. Ritchie, for £3 16s (goods), with lis costs j Thomson, Bridger and Co. (Mr Moore) v. J. J. Munro (Outram), for 14s (goods), with 7s costs; the Otago Metal Workers' Union (Mr Barclay) v. Albert Eckhoff, for £3 (subscriptions, etc., due), with, lis costs; the Dunedin Carters' Union (Mr Barclay) v. William Dodds, for £2 14s (subscriptions, etc., due), with lis costs. • The case of Loyd v. Adams and Dickson, a claim for moneys received by defendants for tho use of plaintiffs, which was adjourned till to-dny from Monday week,...was discontinued by agreement. Mr J. MacQregor was for plaintiffs, and Mr Brown-Durie for defendants. The adjourned case of Marv Cameron (Mr Hay) v. John F. Chase (Mr W. C. MaeGregor), in which plaintiff claimed £ls 15s, by way of commission on the sale of a shop, i>ccupied the Court for a great part of the day, and was proceeding when we went to press. CITY POLICE COURT. (Before C. C. Graham, Esq., S.M.) Desertion.—Allan Talbot was charged with deserting his wife. Mr Hanlon explained that the defendant was arrested tor wife desertion, and the case was adjourned. Since then an amicable settlement had been arrived at.—Case struck out. Drunkenness—Phil O'Connor, Margaret Cotterel, and Joseph Miller were each fined iOs, or forty-eight hours.—Mary M'Kegney, who created a scene by screaming loudly and smashing a door, was sent to P-iol for three months.—David Stedmanwas lined 20s, or seven days. Case Withdrawn.—A charge against John Laurie of being a rogue and a vagabond was withdrawn, the Sub-inspector explaining that the man was now in employment. A Navy Deserter.—George W. Harper pleaded guilty to deserting from H.M.S. Wallaroo, at Port Chalmers, on the 27tli March.—Accused was remanded until Monday, in order to give the police an opportunity of ascertaining where the sliip is at present. Theft.—Joseph Thomas Daly, a youth, was charged with stealing a bicycle at Timaro the property of Oates, Lowry, and Co. On the application of the Sub-inspec-tor accused "was remanded to Timaru, to appear there on Friday. By-law Cases.—For riding a, bicycle on a footpath, Robert Patterson, Claude H. Harvey, Arthur Austin, and Alexander M'Murray were each fined 5s and costs (7s). Prohibition Order.—Mrs Zimmermaan applied for a inhibition order against her husbaDd, Ricuard Carl Zimmermann. Mr Mill appeared for the defendant, and applied for an adjournment for a week on account of his client being at Gore.— Mr Sim, who repraented the applicant, objected to an adjournment. The position was that two previous orders had been granted against the defendant, and since the expiration of the last order he had been drinking heavily.—His Worship decided to hear the evidence.—Mrs Zimmermann gave evidence that her husband had been more or less intoxicated since the expiration of the previous order, and had threatened her life.—ln the face of that evidence. His Worship declined to grant an adjournment, and granted the order as asked for. Indecent Language.—Walter Simmonds, a boy, represented by Mr Irwin, pleaded not guilty to using indecent language. The facta as stated by the Sub-inspector were that two girls were going through, the Arcade at night, when accused accosted one of them and addressed indecent language to her. —The case for the defence was that tho lad, who never used any bad language, was struck on the head by the sirl's umbrella. —His Worship held that there was.no corroborative evidence, &nd di&miswd the case. Breach of the Peace.—Mary Jane'Barnwas charged with, on the 26th inst., usiniz threatening behaviour in King street, with intent to provoke a breach of the peace. Ou the application of Mr Barclay, who appeared for accused, a remand was granted until Friday, the girl being allowed out on bail in her own recognisance of £lO.
