CRIMINAL LIBEL.

AUCKLAND, May 21. Referring to tbe points raised by Mr Tole, Mr Justice Cano'ly wrid that Richardson was discharged subject to being arrested in the event of the-Court of Appeal ordering a new trial. He could not admit that the evidence was improperly admitted, but allowed all the other points in the application. Richardson applied for costs, wnich tihe Judge said -he had no power to allpw. The case against Bell, charged with publishing the same libel, as in the Richardson case, fell through. Evidence was produced that he wrote the letter, but not that he published it. The Judge accordingly directed a verdict of " Not guilty," and the accused was discharged.
