John AtweH, an old age pensioner, attempted to commit suicide at Ida Vallev yesterday by opening an artery in his left arm. He also attempted to open one in his right arm. The wound inflicted was a deep one. Atwell, who was attended to by a doctor, is now out of danger. John Hislop, aged about forty-three, residing in Leith street, when engaged in handling cargo on the steamer Zealardia yesterday, tapped on the deck and fell headlong down the hold.
