LATE MINING.

The Waimumu Extended has stopped, owing to the bottom tumbler being broken. The New Alpine Cow-obi dredge stopped work temporarily, owing to a, slight mishap to the valve spindle, this morning. She probably started again some time to day. The dredge bottomed on Tuesday morning at a depth of 48ft, and prospect* were fair. On the 16th inst,. (Saturday) the river was nearly as low as when dredging had previously been begun, and as fairly heavy frosts were being experienced it was expected to go still lower. The dredge-master says they will have six inches to spare in depth in the deepest part of the cut, and unless the bottom dips, which he considers unlikely, they should not be troubled to get bottom any more this winter. The dredge-masker of the Alpine No. 2 reports, under date 18th inst.. that he hopes to make a start at dredging within a week's time or sooner. He intends to pull the dredge out and run a new headline ready for starting. Dredge-masters' reports for week ended 16th inst. : Dunstan Lead.—They had a fairly good run, but on Wednesday morning (13th iu*t.) two of the elevator rollers broke, and the bottom tumbler brasses of the elevator were repaired at the same time, the dredge bein? stopped for twelve hours.
