The boy was not dismissed for jjeipg late through having gone to Port Chalmers t« ree his lifeless father. Ha was under potiea of dismissal several days previous to the sad occurrence. When he came to work on Saturday morning be explained why he was late, but hi« story was at first discredited, as the nevfpapere made it appear the man killed lived at Caver *h&m. which waji not the boy's home, However, the employer paid him his wases due, and also gave him an extra week's wages, with good advice.
