Roslyx. —At the ordinary meeting of the Borough Council on Friday there were present—The Deputy-mayor (Cr Hunter), Crs Wedderspoon, Colder, Washer, Hamel, M'Millan, Howard, Shuttleworth, Sim, and Begg.—Correspondence was dealt with. — The Royal Reception Committee wrote that the Council’s portion of the credit balance of £64 18s amounted to £2 12s 3d. The Committee asked the Council to hand the amount to the Queen’s statue fund. The Council decided to give the amount as requested.—Messrs Haggitt Bros, and Brent, the Council’s solicitors, wrote, that they had received the Dunedin and Roslyn Tramway Company mortgage to R. Glendining and others, and the consent endorsed was hi the form approved by the writers. Messrs Downie Stewart and Payne had pointed out that the Companies Act provided that a mortgage by a company must 4)e filed with the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies within twentyone days from the date of its execution, and therefore it was necessary consent should be given at that meeting of the Council. Consent granted.—The Works Committee made the following recommendations : should be informed that the footpath in Tay street would be undertaken as soon as possible ; (2) that, with reference to a letter from Mr A. J. Park, the Council reply that the Council had no intention of claiming the piece of Mrs Dick’s land, in question, and did not dispute her title; (3) that with reference to Messrs N. and E, S, Paterson’s application, permission be given Mr France, to remove the clay in tfames street fronting his private property; (4) that, with reference to the letter from the !Dunedin City Council saying that that hqdy would expend £6O on the Belt roads to Leven street if the Roslyn Council would pay half, the clerk be instructed to obtain details of the proposed work; (5) that Mr Alexander be informed that the Council intended to asphalt the footpaths in Ann street; (6) that Mr Wyse's letter complaining of the cattle nuisance should he sent to the police constable, with a request that steps he taken to abate the nuisance; (7) that James O’Brien’s offer of a pound site be accepted, subject to the inspector’s approval; (8) that owners of trees overhanging the west side of Michie street be required to cut and remove them; (9) that with reference to a complaint from the District Health Officer a resident of the borough should be served with a notice to abate the nuisance cafised by the discharge from his house drain; (10) that the inspector report on an application for a*path alongside the fences at the upper end of Albert street, Bishopscourt, and that he he instructed to lay down a tarred metal crossing between the team lame and Tweed

street, Melroje, to asphalt the footpaths in Ann street and Church street as soon as men were available, and to report on th| necessary work on street leading from Church street to Frances street, Malden? It was resolved to instruct tie inspector to have Albert street, Bishopscourt,. made; , safe for immediately. Adopted.— The Finance Cbmmittee recommended that the clerk should be authorised to pay to Drainage .Board the amount of ■rate received to March 31, less any amounts levied on the exempted area and the charge •. of 5 per cent, on the cost of collection.— 4 The matter of kerbing and channelling the I south side of High street from Ross street i to. the watershed, and of asphalting the f other side of the street was referred to the i Works Committee. This Committee were also instructed, by Cr Hamel’s motion, to i * take some steps towards repairing Fairlejstreet, opposite Mr Nelson’s property.—Cra/ Shuttleworth, Washer, Dawson, and Wed-’T derspoon were elected a Works and Finance Committee, and Crs Washer and Hamel a Fire Brigade Committee.
