A Hawcra message says: Mr G. T. Bayiy, master of the Egrnont-Wanganui Hunt Club, a well-known cricketer and onetime footballer, and sprinter,' was presented by the citizens with a piece .of silver plate and address, and by the cricketers of the. old and new generations with an address,, on the eve of his departure for Auckland, where he intends to reside. The death is announced at Christchurch of Mr Thomas Broadway, formerly hotelkeeper at Ontram, and subsequently pastrycook and proprietor of Woods’s Family Hotel, Rattray street, Dunedin. Our Christchurch correspondent wires;— “Sir J. 0. Ward has telegraphed that he will make arrangements to be present at the social tendered to Mr 0. W. Ell, by his supporters on Wednesdoy evening.” Miss Margaret Dippie, the Knri Bush teacher, who is leaving to take up her duties as teacher at Waitahuna West, was entertained at a social in the Kuri School on Friday last and presented with, a dressing case. Mr Peter Leitch, chairman of the Committee, in making the presentation, referred in terms of the highest praise to Miss Dippie’s sterling qualities, both as a teacher and a citizen. The other speakers were Messrs J. J. Ramsay and Mr Reast (a member of the Committee).
