GORE AUTUMN MEETING. First Day.—Tuesday. The track was heavy and the going greasy. After Red Ronald had won the St. Patrick's Handicap a protest was lodged on behalf of the owner of Cherrystone alleging interference. The winner had swerved under punishment, and carried Mr Rutherford's representative to the outside of the track. The complaint was dismissed, the stewards being of opinion that the interference was unintentional, and did not affect the result. At the conclusion of the programme the final heat of the Gore Trotting Cup was run off, in accordance with the decision of the Trotting Association. St. George, the previous winner, was withdrawn, as were liexy and Boldrewood. Fichu won easily. During the day £1,564 was handled through the totalisator, a shrinkage of £922 on last year's total. The concluding events resulted thus: — GORE CUP, of 80 sovs. One mile and a-quarter. Ardnarff (9.6) 1, Sirius (8.11) 2, Pellet (7.3) 3. Also ran : Victor (7.13). The Racing Committee of the above club have decided on Saturday, March 28, as the date of their annual road race, the course being from Saddle Hill Junction to Allanton, across to Outram. and finishing at Mosgiel, starting at 3.15 p.m. Secret Society won the St. Patrick's and the Harvest Handicaps at Waimate yesterday, and Covenant Maid the Studholme Stakes. For the Mile Trot there were eighteen starters, and R.J.S. (familiar initials) came out on top. Abaydos (£3 18s) accounted for the principal event at Greymouth yesterday. The sum of £5,316 was put through the totalisator at Horowhenua yesterday. Benefactor (£3) won the Cup, with Lifebelt (£2 6s) second; Betsy (£4 Is) the St. Patrick's Handicap; and Livoria (£2 14s) the Park Stakes, with Exmoor (17s) second. At the Stratford meeting yesterdav Glencoe (£2 ss) won the Cup. Gilnockie (£2 7s) the St. Patrick's Handicap, and Hakaria (£3 6s) the Flying. In the Hurdles Moturoa and Taranaki fell, and Adams, the rider of the latter, was seriously injured. The totalisator handled £7,731, an increase of £771 on the corresponding day of last year. At the Oxford races yesterday the Cup was won by Zealous (£1 2s).
