CRICKET.
SATURDAY’S MATCHES. FIRST GRADE. The weather on Saturday cleared most satisfactorily in the afternoon, and was admirable from a cricketers’ point of view. Amongst the batsmen, in some matches, a kpen observer might have noticed onel or two indications of efforts to profit by the visit of the Englishmen, and, after all, it was to that end that, we brought them to the colony. Cabisbbook A t. Albion. This was one of the fixtures played at the Carisbrook Ground. Fisher being away from the borne team, it was whispered about that Albion were going to make a lively game of it. They didn’t. Batting first, they made bnt a feeble effort, and were all disposed of for 49 runs, Uttley (20) and Cnmmings (12) being the only donblefigure scorers. Siedeberg and Austin bowled throughout the innings, the former taking five wickets for 18 runs. The running out of Cnmmings was the result of mismanagement. Cansbrook responded with 184 for two wickets. Mills and Howden opened the batting, and after settling down looked like making a stand, when Mills, at 17, was bowled by a hanging off break from Corbett. Howden, who was not batting up to form, was caught at 29. Austin- and Siedeberg then played-out time, their scores being 62 and 61 not out respectively. Scores:— Auhion.—First Innings. G.
