Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright • SYDNEY, February 27. John Philip Lawson, examined. in bankruptcy, stated that at one time he was worth £150,000. In 1896 he arrived in New Zealand from London as a mining engineer to three companies at a salary of £3,000 a year for thrne years. The mines proved worthless. In connection with one 01 these companies he had paid £1,600 as wages, but .did not get his money back. He came to Sydney in 1901. Miss Kate GallagheT got a judgment against him for £l5O. He had been speculating for ber in New Zealand and lost the amount. He did not enter a' defenpe, because he expected to be a"ble to pay the claim. The examination was adjourned.
