CYCLING RACES.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —As a visitor from Australia, may I venture to ask if there is a League of Wheelmen governing the cycling sports in Neve. Zealand? As an enthusiast I ventured out in your beautiful climate to see these races at the Caledonian sports and the arrangements for this class of sports were, I think, very bad. If there is a
League, I think it is far behind our Australian Leagues. My objections are that the officials were weak, some of the Judging CBme in for question, and the time tl e men were kept on Iheir marks (in some cases some minutes before the pistol) was too long. Then, in one or two instances the bell was ran at the finish of the race, thus giving the competitors au additional lap; The competitors also, I noticed, were talking, looking round, running wide etc. These offences are punishable under League rules—l heard of no fines being inflicted*, It behoves the racing men to fernku League if the New Zealand League is dead.—l am, etc..
