WEST COAST NOTES.
[SraCTAL TO THB STAJt.]
WESTPORT, October 6. The Kohikohi dredge is not working, the dam having broken away last Monday. The management, however, 'have put on all hands to build another one of a much more .substantial character. 'lTiere will be no return till the middle of the month.
The Amibitea dredge will not commence work for another three weeks. This dredge was formerly named the Four River Plain dredge, and was moved up to M»takitaki from Buller River at great, expense to the shareholders. It is intended to work the ground that was owned as a farm by Mr E. Paton, and a commencement will be made about half a mile below Kohikolii.
The manager of the Buller dredge (Mr Liddicoat) has 'been waiting patiently for the river to rise. He has still one fall to negotiate before ho gets the dredge into proper ground. There has been a moderate Hood in the river for the past few days, and dredging operations have been disturbed.
