OHRISTCHURCH, October 6.
The movement to finish the cathedral, which was inaugurated about two years ago, has resulted in enough money being collect-d to build the transepts. This work will be completed by the New Year. A fresh effort is'now being made with tho view of going straight on with the building of the chancel and completing the whole cathedral. The chancel is estimated to cost, £12.000. Of this sum, £2.000 was in hand some three weeks ago. when the. fresh canvass began. Since then nearly £1,200 has been guaranteed. If another £•2,300 is promised before the Synod meet; this month Ihc Chapter have 'agreed to recommend the (Synod to authorise the raising of a loan for the balance.
The cricket season was opened on Saturday in warm weather. The annual meeting of tho Cricket Council, which was fixed for Saturday night, was postponed till _ all the affiliated associations have held their annual meetings.
