WORK AND WAGES.
The' Arbitration Court, sitting at Christ, church vesterday, fined John Donnelly £5 for working at less wages than the minimum award of the Court in the bootmakers' dispute last year. Donnelly was a member of the workers' union. The Excelsior Boot, Manufacturing Company were alf'o fined £5 and costs for employing Donnelly at wages lower than the award. The fact that the difference in wages had been made liood previous to proceedings beine taken did not prevent the Court from imposing the fines. CHRISTCHURCH, October 5. At a conference of shearers and sheep* owners to-day, a settlement of the questions in dispute was arranged after a lengthy discussion. Tho Arbitration Court will not therefore be occupied hearings what promised to bo a lengthy case. The arrangement is for three years, but the terms are not yet made public WELLINGTON, October 3.
The Trades Council last evening decided to take immediate steps towards the creation of one federation of labor for tbc "whole colony.
