THE DUNBACK ENDOWMENT.
TO THE EDITOK. SJr, —You nave the thanks of ,a large number of electors for tailing the trouble to ferret out the truth in connection with that Dunback- reserve. It is to be regretted that such a howl should have been made over nothing, with tho intention of doing harm to an hone t.aud strjigh forward man. The most of thoic who did vhe howling knew the truth afi you found it, and as truth was a secondary consideration Mr Ailen was made the butt of unfair, cruel insinuation. What did he do that was wrong? Was he other than in his overy action? I sly emphatically-No, and Mr Allen's op-, ponents knew it; but tho only hope they have is by creating a scand.il and dealing votes from .the present member with a view of turning him out .of office But the Port people- hiivo received too much honest-and' hard-working consideration at Mr Allen's hands to forsake him now. He has proven himself a nnin of,.his word and worthy of _lho conlidcuei.-;- p'ht iu him. Mr -Allen "will "assui;ouly IV'ndit 'J>y <iiif: and the .CBalmers people ara'not going to be gulled to: throw, over a man who has acted honestly and .-squarely -with them for the sake of those who " do not believe in the Government" Why" should they?. Could they bs better "served? ] question it. When Mr Allen has finished his Wellington duties I hope he'will'deal out to those unfair persons what they deserve. Every possible point has been.'made to apj>ear as though . Mr' Allen' were doing something underhand. 1 do hate hitting "from behind a bush, and any man guilty of so. misrepresenting' a ease as this has been is not worthy of the votes of a constituency. When the Chalmers voters turn up at the poll let them show their appreciation of a man who has. worked night and dav in their interests. He has got them all they h&vo asked for that was possible to get, anil yet some people are not satisfied.—l am, etc.. DiscrsTitt). September 50.
