The receipts amounted to £45 2s 7d, and the expenditure to £39 15s 4d, leaving a credit balance of £5 7s 3d. Of inter-club matches four were lost, two were won, and one was not played, owing to the continued wet weather for several weeks before the! close of the bowling season. Fortune did not favor the club at the midsummer tournament, while at the Oamaru and Invercargill tournaments at Easter the club were unrepresented. The championship prize, presented by Mr Loidlaw, was won by Mr Hancock. The president’s prize has to be played for by Messrs Jolly and Thomson, and the vice-presidents’ prizes were carried off by Messrs Parker and Tynan. Hearty votes of thanks were passed” to the officebearers for the past year, and special recognition was recorded to the president, to MrGray for defraying the cost of top-dressing the green, to Messrs Laidlaw and M’Ginnis for the prizes given by them, to Messrs Campbell and Gray for paying all expenses in connection with the socials and to the ladies who helped to make it the undoubted success it was.

The four-oar race was won by Crawford’s crew from rhe Wellington Glut. The Caledonian Bowling Club Committee, in their annual report to the chtb, delivered themselves of the following significant remarks: —A practice has arisen amongst the members in connection with club matches which cannot be too strongly condemned, and that is the delay in playing off the ties. One player sees a single blade of grass standing up, therefore the green is not in good order, and he won’t play; a second has some other paltry excuse, and thus the time is wasted. "Wet evenings intervene, and there is a hurryscurry at the close of the season to get them finished, when, in many instances, the green is not fit to play upon. This was fully exemplified this season, so much so that the Committee stepped in and cancelled the so-called final contest for the link medals. - There are two - ways .of

sa&ttf£j6p; prizes; and itlwjr 1 other -aboHitfnntr^™® l tote. - If> members won't appreciate the ; , kindness and generosity pfr'the friends of theclnb by phtyingin a,proper manner -for ; the pipes presented,, lettnem not . have -the chance of doing so. "Mr John Bislop, jeweller, vwws the donor of the cop that was. .competed for by the. numbers of the North-east Valley Gymna>amm Club.
