The Royal Waiaumu* dredge has been' closed down for .a week owing to floods having washed the tram line away.

The dredge-master of the Gabriel reports ‘ that he had a lot of stoppages during the week, and.he is working round a bar of rock, but the ground is very poor—all clav and old paddocks. It will take another week to break through into the other side,, where he expects better returns. The river was in flood, but he had a dam built, and the dredge sustained no damage. There was no wash-up on the New-'Nevis dredge, last week. Work was resumed on Saturday. . . , There was no wash-up on the Golden Elbow last week; the ground was deep, and the tailings troublesome. *■.. The river is at the 3ft 65n mark-at Alexandra, and the weather fine. Only one sale took place at this morning’s call—viz., one parcel of Great Centrals at 2/6; and most- of the stocks show very little difference from last week’s closing quotes. Alexandra Leads show a wider market than usual, and Alpine No. 2 stock has naturally hardened, hut Cromwells seem a little easier than one would expect after such consistently high returns. Dunstan Leads and Fourteen-mile Beaches are still wanted, but First Chances are easier, and Great Centrals show an upward move by buyers. New Halfway Houses are also much firmer, and Inch Valleys are in some demand. Maxniherikias show signs of recovery, and Mokoias were mentioned, while the good return from the Mosquito dredge has brought out some inquiry for the stock.
