(Received September 26, at 10.44 p.m.) The Bank of England returns show the stock of coin and.bullion to be £35,110,000. The reserve is £26,329,000, the proportiou of reserve to liabilities being 43.87. The notes in circulation total £29,199,000public deposits, £8,301,000; other de'posits, £40,373,000; Government securities, £14,590,000 ; other securities. £26,303,000. b Three months' bills are discounted at 31-16. Consols are qnoted at £95. Quotations for colonial Government stocks are subjoined, compared with those ruling last week:—

The wheat market is dull; American is steady. Harvesting in Europe is nearly completed. The bulk of the English samples are damp. Dry wheat is very firm. The Continental crops are much damaged. Copper.—Spot, £52 12s 6d; three months, £52 15s.

Tin.—Spot, ' £ll3 10s; three months, £ll6 ss.

Pig-iron, 58s 4d. Lead, £lO 17s 6d. Sugar.—First marks, 7s 9d; German, 6s 3d.

The Bradford wool market is firmer. Common sixties and supers have advanced one farthing; forties are unchanged. The wool sales are closing on the second. The Waiapoi clip realised s|d; Kawarau, 9£d; Brancepeth, 6|d. Contracts have been made for New Zealand butter at 106s, c.i.f.; delivery till May. {Received September 27, at 10.8 a.m.)

At the kauri gum sales 2,030 cases were offered, and 1,150 sold. Prices are very firm. Quarter, scraped, 120s. (Received September 27, at 1L24 a.m.) At the wool sales prices were rather irregular, but cross-breds remained firm. There were many withdrawals of scoured merinoes.
