At the inquest on George Main, journalist, Auckland, evidence was given as to the bad state of deceased’s health and depressed spirits. The jury, without retiring, brought in a verdict that deceased committed suicide while mentally deranged. James Pirie, seventy years of age, residing near Woodlands, met his death in a strange manner on June 30. He left home to visit some friends, and did not return, but as it was nothing out of the ordinary for him to stay for a few days no alarm was felt by the family. Yesterday morning he was found dead in a wire fence, in getting over which his feet had dipped, and he had fallen forward into a ditch on the other side, and this had caused the wires to twist. He had extricated one foot through the boot coming off, but evidentiv died from exposure and exhaustion.
