VOLUNTEERING.

The Dunedin Engineer Corps held a parade for engineering drill at the Garrison Hall last evening. The sgnallers paraded at previously arranged points for lamp practice. A central station was placed on the Town Hall tower and the limelight apparatus brought into u-c, the other stations being at Signal Hill and Monteeillo. Notwithstanding the high wind, some good practice was got in. At a meeting held after parade, Dr E. E. Blomfield was elected as surgeon-captain to the corps. A meeting of the Engineers’ Ball Committee was held, at which satisfactory reports were received ’as to the i. sne of tickets. The annual ball takes p’ace on the Ist August, and promises to be as successful as ita predecessors. The Engineers, are now making arrangements for the bolding of their annual presentation of prizes. Badges, etc., were presented to members as, under: For proficiency in special branches of work (with an accompanying personal payment of £1 each) t Field engmeering—Laoce-cor-poral Ellis, Sappers Steele, Grant, and M’Kenzie; signalling and electrical work— Sappers Stewart, Watt, H. Smith, and Carr. Efficiency badges (for three years’ service); Lance-corporals De la Mare, Baird, M‘Neil, Roach, Sappers WilheJmron, Evans, James; for six year?’ service—-Sap-per Hook; marksmen’s badges—Sapper Veitch (best shot badge), Sergeant-major Flynn, Scr-eint Jacob-, Orporals Smith, Bragg, Marett, Wi’lims, lance-corporals Ellis and Baird, Sappers' Grant, Hook, i Latta, Pollock, Reid, S e le, Whelan.
