SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

The monthly meeting of the Albany street School Committee was held last evening, and was attended by Messrs Wilkinson (chairman), O’Shea, Aitken, Stephens, Wait, Nugent, Dempster, and Brown. The headmaster’s report showed that the average attendance for the month was the same as for the preceding month. Some little indignation was expressed at the action of the truant officer in harassing parents whose children had been absent from school, *he headmaster having certified that absence was due to illness, and it was decided that in the opinion of the Committee truancy cases reported to the Education Board should, be dealt with subject to the head-master’s memorandum. Mr Wait submitted a report in connection with the School Committees’ Conference, and pleasure was expressed at his election as chairman of that body for the ensuing twelve months. The increased capitation to the Committee was discussed. A staisfactory report was received in connection with the school swimming club. Messrs Nugent and Stephens were appointed a visiting committee for the ensuing month. The monthly meeting of the High street School Committee was held last evening; present—Messrs Walker (chairman), A. Taylor, Fleming, M‘Leod, W. Taylor, Wood, Melvin, and Watson. The head-master’s report was read as follows:—Number on roll: Boys 525, girls 294; total, 619. Average attendance; Boys 306, girls 265; total, 571. Penny bank deposits, £7 16s; total credit to bank, £226. In connection with The Coronation medals presented to the children, it was decided to pass a vote'of thanks to the subscribers. The Coronation cards presented by thi Government were distributed throughout the ?< bool. Inspectors Goyen and Richardson are at present examining the school. It was decided to hold an entertainment in August in aid of the school funds. There were present at the monthly meeting of the Momingtou School Committee held last evening Messrs Ford (in the chair), Earland, Henderson, Cameron, Harvey, Vinsen and Dickson. The head-master reported the number of children on the roll ls followsBeys 236, girls, 253; total 469. The average attendance for the month was 428 an in. crease of six over that of the previous month
