FARMERS UNION.
WELLINGTON, July 4. On resuming after lunch yesterday it was decided to. sit daily from 9.30 a-ni. to 1 p.m., and from 2 to 6 p-m., and that movers of resolutions be a" lowed to speak ten minutes and others five minutes. The Conference then went into committee to consider and revise the platform and rules drawn up at the Palmer ton Conference of 190 J. Rule 1 was amended to read as follows:—"That the Union shall consist of members who. shall be (a) holders of rural lands or persons engaged in agricultural, pastoral, .fruit-growing, or dairying pursuits;' (b) farm laborers who have been employed on a farm for three months or more immediately prior to admission; (c) any person interested in farming or farm products may be an honorary member, but will not have a vote, and will not be entitled to' hold office. Rule 3 was amended to provide for the reason being stated in the care of notice being given to expel a member. In rule 6 provision was made for a branch chairman instead of the Committee appointing a substitute for any delegate who cannot attend a meeting of a provincial council. Rule 8 was amended* with respect to the quota of members governing theappointmfnt of delegates. It is now provided that a provincial council representing between 100 and 1,000 members fhall have one deledelegate; for any number up to 2,000, two delegates; the -maximum number of delegates for a province being four. It was provided that the' Executive Committee shall elect -a secretary and tiea-mer to act for the colony.' The Conference adjourned till to-morrow, and it is probable, the session will coricfade on Wednesday.
