SALVATION ARMY.
A highly successful meeting in aid of th» rescue work was held in the Salvation Anttf Hall, Port Chalmers,, last night The mayor (Mr Thomson) occupied the chair, and the following gentlemen sat on the platform ;—Revs. Tennent and Thomas, Captain Thomson, Mr A. Thomson, and Adjutant Burton. An apology was received from Mr E, G. Allen, M.H.R., who regretted bis inability to be present on account of a political meeting at Tomahawk. Each speaker eulogised the Salvation Army rescue work. Misses Davidson, Paton, and Johnson sang, Miss Johnson acting as accompanist. The offer Jig amounted to £5 ss. Captain Dnnkley, who is in charge of the local corps, ihank<4 chairman, speakers, singers, and the public who had .so readily responded to the call on their time and charity.
