THE POLLARD OPERA COMPANY.
The second and final performance of ‘ The Belie of New York’ last nigtit went with a merry swing from start to finish, the company appearing tn enjoy the entertainment as much as those in front. Mr Stephens’s business and quaint Americanisms were ihe cause of much laughter; Miss Al.ce Pollard’s invitation to ‘ Follow on ’ was. freely accepted by the audience, who applauded her portrayal of the “ lassie ”; Miss Gertie Camp on did her share of the work very prettily; and Mr Carter’s efforts were as successful as on the previous representation The complimentary remarks anent the other members of the company in last night’s issue can only be repeated, as each did his or her best to prevent “ a cloud coming o’er the brow ” of any of those present. ‘ Maritana,’ with Miss Rose Blaney in the name oart, will be staged for to-night only. To-morrow evening Dunedin theatregoers will be afforded the opportunity of witnessing the production of the great London success ‘The Messenger Boy.’ Being the first production in Australasia, all the characters will naturally have to be created by the various principals, but the members of the Pollard Company should prove equal to the occasion.
