The Weather Bureau of the United States D.partment of Agriculture has published a bulletin which states that the number of deaths caused by lightning in the United States during the year 1200 was 713. Of this number 291 were killed in the open, 168 in houses, 57 under trees, and 56 in barns; the circumstances concerning the death of the remaining number are not known.
