CASUALTIES.

At the inquest at Wanganui into tho circumstances connected with the death of George Towe, who died at tho Criterion Hotel on Thursday morning last, a verdict of “ Death from heart failure, caused by chronic alcoholism,” was returned. The evidence showed that deceased lived at the Criterion Hotel, where he kept the books for the licensee. He received no salary, but was given a home, and allowed to have whatever liquor he wished. The licensee said that Towe was a sober man, and would not drink to excess. The coroner, summing up, said the man had been drinking himself to death. If the licensee did not know it he must bs very ignorant; if he did know it he was deserving of grave censure. ’Mr J. T. Wright, of this City, had the misfortune to fall on the steamer while on his way to Sydney and splinter his arm. Advices state that the injury is not of a serious character, and has not prevented Mr Wright getting about as usual. The body of Hugh MThcrson was found in the M»’tukituki River on Sunday right last. MTherson, who was a runholder, was last seen driving a dray and two horses along the road, which follows the river bank. The dray was found on Monday night tips’-de down, and. covering the body of deceased. Death was apparently due to an accident.
