A "HAZARD SCHOOL" RAID.
Five detectives raided an alleged hazard school under TjttersalTs Club, in Swanston street, Auckland, yesterday, and arretted Tobtas Tobias and James Becketc, bookmaker.-*, the alleged keepers of the "'school," and i.ine other?—viz., William Ryan, Thomas M'Kay, A. De Groen, Frederick Lovekwk, .Mark Bush, Charles Mark, Albert Champion, Henry Davy, and Harry Hayr—all well known ia turf circles. The door was burst in, and some who escaped a back wall being known to the poJce afterwards surrendered. AH were released on bail subsequently. Beckett and Tobias are charged with being keepers of a common gaming-house, and the others with being found on the premises. The accused were brought before the Police Court this morning, when Beckett was fined £2O, and the others, including Tobias, £1 each. The charges against Charles Mark and Henry Davey were not proceeded with. The defence was that the accused were all members of Tattersalfs Club.
