OTAGO LAND BOARD.

The regular meeting of the Land Board was held yesterday, and was attended by Mr I). Barron (Chief Commissioner), Messrs Clark, Dallas, Duncan, and Kirkpatrick.

Ranger Atkinson forwarded a report on the application by William Hanger to be allowed a further amount as valuation for fencing on Run 228b, St. Bathans.—Previous valuation adhered to, Mr Hanger to be allowed till the 20th March to remove his stock. Thomas Allan wrote declining to accept ,-i license over part of section 13, block 10, Woodland distict.—Received. Ranger Hughan reported on the petition of a number of settlers at Mount Hyde that sections 31 and 37. block 4, Mount Hyde district, be made bush reserves. —Sections to be grouped as below and offered under pastoral lease for a period of fourteen years, at au upset rental of 3d per acre. Rangtr to make valuation for improvements.

The Board were requested to determine as to how the following sections shall be dealt with:—Sections 9, 6, and 13, block 5, Mount Hyde district; sections 10 and 11. block 5, Mount Hyde district; section 8, block 5, and sections 31 and 37, block -1, Mount Hyde district.—Section 8, block 6. and sections 31 and 37, block 4, to be grouped; sections 1, 2, 6, 9, 10, 11, and 13. block 5, to be grouped. John Thompson, on behalf of Thornis Brown, forwarded an application for an occupation lease under the Mining Districcs Land Occupation Act, 1894, over an area -J eight acres, situated on the south of section 32. hiock 3, Beaumont district.—Referred to the warden for opinion. Banger Atkinson reported that. P.. H. D. Niuhol, lessee of small-grazing run No. 185, Mount Hyde district, is not complying with the residence condition of his lease.—Held over.

Assistant Ranger O'Neill reported on the application by dames M'Atamney for a >• cense to occupy about one acre adjoining section 5, block 2, Tiger Hill district. Granted, at a rental of 5s per annum. Assistant Hanger O'Neill reported on the application by F. Donuelly for a license -o occupy sections 3 to 7 and 10 to 13, 4, Town of Ophir.—Granted, at a rent of 7s 6d per annum. Mr John Duncan and Ranger Hughan reported on the application by H. E. Steel for a license to occupy sections 2 and 61, block 10, and 48, 49, 52, and 53. block 11, Pomahaka Downs Estate, for grazing purposes for two. months ; also upon application by John Harriott for a license to occupy section 49, block 11, Pomahaka Downs Estate. —Application to occupy sections referred to granted for two months, at £l2; section 21 to be offered to J. Herriott for a similar period at a rental of £5.

Mr John Duncan and Ranger Hughan reported on the application by William Mitchell fur portion of section 28, block 11, I'oioahaka <ii>trict. —License granted to Mr Mitchell ;it 3s j>er acre under the 116 th clause of t lie Act. .James Cu<ack applie 1 to have his over small-grazing run. section 10, block 12, Gleakeiih-ii district, forfeited, as he was unable to pay the present rent. —To be forfeited after the usual notice had been given. M. A. Norman applied for section 2, block 15, Lower Wanaka district. —lieceived. Assistant Banger O'Neill reported that John Dickie, jun., holder of occupation lease No. 80, block 2, Leaning Rock district, had an area of 60 acres of Crown lands fenced in over which he held no title. —Yearly license- granted at a rectal of 20s per annum. Consideration of application by James Healy for a lease m perpetuity over sections 10 and 11, block 1, Thjiir Hill district.—Granted. George Clarke applied for a license to occupy sections 5, 6, and 7, block 9, Tautuku district.—Held over. Robert Boyd applied for a, license to occupy portion of mining reserve, .section 49, block "i. Town of Hyde.—Mr Boyd to be requested to define the portion of the land. Karger Hughan reported on section 20, Town of Waikoikoi, formerly held by Robert Hannah.—To be offered for sale by auction at an upset of £4 per acre. Eichard Kitto applied for a license to occupy pair, of plantation reserve, section 55, block 5, Strath-Taieri district, adjoining section 19.—Banger to report. iv. Williamson applied for a license to occupy section 1 ? 14 and 15, block 16. Maniototo district—Granted, at 6d per acre. Banger Mackenzie reported that Alex anojer Elliott, who had been grafted a, license- to cut firewood at Greenstone River, declined to accept a license. —Received. Ranger Mackenzie reported that Alexander Humphrey, who had been granted a license to en: props at Wilkin River, declined to accept a licer^:e. —Received. Application to sublease o.r.p. 187, Juliauna, Beany to Alfred William Pollard, section 1, block 4, Woodland district.— Declined

Ranger Hughan reported on . sections bl to 37, block 8, Crookston district, held utder o.r.p. by John Harris.—Mr Hams to show cause "why his license should not b'j forfeited for non-compliance with the terms of the Act.

The .Secretary Otago Education Board wTot.e asking that an area of 3£ acres, being part of section 112, Ardgowan Estate, might be set aside as a school site. —Referred to the Minister' for consideiation. James Cooper ard James Lumsden applied for a saw-milling license over 60 acres, being the southern portion of section 30, block 8, Catlins district—License tc be granted for the whole section, sub ject to valuation for the timber. Applicants to cteposit £lO to cover appraiser's expenses. Cutten and Hjorring, on behalf of Neil Kearney, applied for a license to occupy the portions of blocks 1 and 2, Town of Ranfurly, not yet dealt with.—Declined. W. L. Simpson, on behalf of John Elder, applied to withdraw his application to acquire about 2 acres fronting section 1, block 1, Benger district.—Received. G. A. Chapman applied for a lease in perpetuity over section 40, block 2, Maniotot© district. —Referred back for further information.

H. M'Master applied for an o.r.p. license over the portion of the old: railway reserve fronting section 15a, block 5, Woodland district.—Reserve to be removed under section 240 of the Land Act, and land to be subsequently dealt with under clause 114. •

The Chief Commissioner and Mr KirKpitrick having reported on improved farm settlements, tiio report was approved and forwarded! to Government, with a recommendation that it he carried into effect.

The Receiver of Land Revenue submitted a list of selectors in arrears with their payments, and it was decided to call upon them to pay their arrears ov show cause within one month from date why their holdir\gs should not be declared forfeited.
