THE GROCERS' PICNIC
All the grocers' shops in town were closed yesterday for the eighteenth annual picnic. The weather was again " grocers' weather," they having had but one wet day out of toe eighteen. The Committee acted wisely in deciding upon Mount Stuart, as Manuka Creek Gorge is probably unsurpassed M a picnic resort, and their thoughtfuraess was thoroughly appreciated, as the picnic proved the most successful that has yet been held. The Committee's thanks are due to the Railway Department for providing extra accommodation for the 400 excursionists abova
the 1,000 agreed upon. The party left town at 9.30, arriving at Mount Stuart at IL4S, when luncheon was partaken of, the Committee finding milk, sngar, tea, etc. Games, dancing, etc., were afterwards indulged in by both young and old, and a programme of sports was also gone through.
