THE NINTH CONTINGENT.

AUCKLAND, February 12. There are now 470 men under canvas, and it is arpected that the strength of the North Island battalion will be completed before the end of the weds. The saddles have been inspected, and are considered in every way'satisfactory. Mr Russell, who came up from the South to supervise the making of the saddles fofc the contingent, denies the statements m some Southern papers to the effect that the saddles made in Auckland for the Eighth Contingent were badly put together. He further states that no complaints could be made with regard to the saddles actually manufactured in Auckland, and adds that 500 saddles now being made here for the Wroth aie better in material and workmanship than any yet turned out. CAMP NOTES. Captain Jackson and Captain M"Mfllai reported themselves at the camp to-day. Prro extra men went into camp last night. The parade staw this morning was: Otago No. 1, 115; Otago No. 2, 114; Canterbury No. 1, 119 ; Canterbury No. 2, 115. The following men have been picked from reserves to fill up vacancies in the Otago. quota: — Fsnulton, Woodhouee, R. Cooper, Jenkins, and R. J. Chirnside. Parades have been held throughout the day, and horse lines put in position. About fifty horses from the North Island are expected in the camp to-morrow morning. Colonel Robin visited the camp this afternoon.
