VOLUNTEERING.

DUNEDIN ENGINEERS. On Saturday afternoon the Dunedin Engineers fired tho second of three cup competitions, the trophies under competition being the cups presented by Messrs Hallenstein Bros, and Co., Mr J. C. Short, Mr W. G. Bridger, and Mr J. Hislop, and also a gold medal presented by Mr A. Marett, which goes with tho first-mentioned cup. The conditions were seven shots at 300, 500, and 600 yards, and the highest scorers were;

DUNEDIN RIFLES (BURTS CORPS). On Saturday afternoon tho Dunedin Rifles fired the first of three competitions for prizes presented by tho Westport Coal Company and Messrs R. Johnstone, \V. Jay. and V\. Harrison. Conditions; Ten shots and optional sighter at 500 and 700 yards. The following arc tho highest scores;

HIGHLAND RIFLES. The Highland Rifles fired the second compel ition of No. 2 Match on Saturday afternoon. The conditions were: —Ten shots and sightor at 200 yds (kneeling) and 600 yds. Allhough the weather was apparently favorable for shooting, a variable wind, especially at the long range, prevented any large scores being registered. following are ihc highest scores:—

G COMPANY I DUNEDIN CITY RIFLES). Tho above corps fired their No. 3 Match on Saturday for prizes presented by Messrs A. T.orie and Co. and Mr It. M'Lcnnan. A variable light. gave some I rouble at. the longer range. Conditions ; Ten shots at 500 and 700 yards. The following were the highest

('AVER3HAM RIFLE VOLUNTEERS. The Cavorsham Rill os fired their fifth competition for prizes on their range on Saturday. The two prizes shot for were presented by" Mr T. K. Sidey, M.H.R., and were won by Bugler Waugh and Private Porteous. The day was a good one for shooting, and excellent scores were put on until the 600 yards range was reached, when the wind proved very puzzling. The conditions were : —Seven shots at 300. 500. and 600 yards. Tito scores in this match also count for Hallenst-cm’s trophy. Scores:-

Thc Port, Chalmers Naval Cadets, under Lieutenant Dodds, P.C.N. Artillery, hold a church parade, yesterday, and, beaded by their band, marched to the Wesleyan Church, where the Rev. W. Standage preached an appropriate sermon.
