THE ARMY MEAT SUPPLIES.

THE WAR OFFICE'S CONTRACTORS. Press Association— By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, February's. \ (Received February 6, at 8.56 a.m.) Lord Carrington has called attention to the fact of Bcrgl's conviction at Liverpool in May last for deception in connection with •labelling New Zealand lamb.

The Premier of New South Wales has notified Mr Seddon that he has despatched this cable to Mr Copeland, in London: "Desim you will enter a strong protect against the reported contract for supplies of Argentine meat and produce to African forces. Statement that Australia cannot furnish adequate or suitable quantities wholly unfounded. Government consider that such action is unfavorable contrast to expression of Imperial solidarity, and that action of the British colonies justifies preference to them." Premiers Peacock (Victoria) and Philp (Queensland) have instructed their Agents-General to co-operate with the representatives of the other colonies in pressing the claims of Australasia for preference over Argentina.
