A lord used to be an. object of dread and reverence ; now lie is hardly better than a foreign count. In the England that X remember third class passengers on the then newly-built railroads stood in boxes like cattle; now they sit op cushioned seats, the third class cars being so like the first class that the gentry have t;iken largely to using them.—E- L.
