CITY POLICE COURT. (Before the Hon. D. Pinkerton, and Mr P. G. Pryde, J.P.ft.) Drunkenness.—Two first offenders pleaded guilty, and were convicted and discharged. Theft.— William Bum Storey alias Charles Stuart appeared in the dock with his left arm in a sling to answer a charge of having on February 3 stolen a chisel, valued at 2s, the property of John Craig, bladpmith, North-east Valley.—The accused denied the The prosecution stated that on the date mentioned Storey was seen hanging around Mr Craig’s shop, and on the latter’s return from his hmch he missed a chisel Mr Craig got on his bike and followed accused, who had taken passage by a tramcar. Storey was seen to get off at the intersection of Frederick and Hanover streets, but was then lost sight of until Mr Craig and MTkmaid, who bad in the meantime been informed of the circumstances, espied him coming out of Mr Galbraith’s second-hand shop, where the article bad been disposed of by the accused for Bd. Evidence was given by Messrs Craig, Galbraith, and Constable M*Dottald, at the conclusion of which Storey withdrew his previous plea, and was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment, with hard labor.
