GOLDEN RIVER DREDGING COMPANY.

TO THti EMTOft. fcjr.—As there is a good deal of comment on the manner in which this comtoouy's affairs are conducted, will you allow me a space to give a little experience of my Wrfl. As a shareholder, and being somewhat dissatisfied with the wav in which things were bang conducted, I stood for a seat on the Uoard, having been promised a good saeport by other shareholders, who, like myself, were dissatisfied. On the Vote bum* taken the number of vofes poDed by me Was given as eleven hundred odd, I being beaten °y A "' J rose, who polled twelve hundred odd. Isiow, sir, when I came to count an lho votes that were given to me I found mat they came to over fourteen hundred I here were others who voted for me, bat I am sure of that number. Not being satisfied with the way the election Was carried on, 1 went to the office of the company at opening time next morning, and on asking to see the ballot papers was told that they wero destroyed. Now, they were not destroyed at the meeting, bat taken aw»y. I at once interviewed the chairman regarding the matter, and he promised to see the scrutineer, who was one of the directors, and odo of the secretary's clerks about it! After waiting six weeks he has managed to see one of them (Mr Ackroyd), who does not think there was any mistake made. But 1 would like to Fay this: that it behoves shareholders in the future, if they want to have their wishes carried out asl flections conducted in a fair manner, to see that the scrutineers are appointed from ■•iroong themselves, as the method of having iheir directors and office staff acting in this capacity is open to suspicion. Directors often wish to k-cp their little family parties select, but T think it would be good taste on the part of directors and the office staff to refrain from acting. I suggest that a meeting of shareholders be called, when I could explain other matters.—l am. etc., A. Rowkrit,. January 28.
