AUCKLAND, January 28. There was rather a painful scene at the Onehnnga Presbyterian Church on Sunday morning, when the Rev. Robert Wylie, who recently resigned the pastorate, spoke bitterly of the causes that had led him to sever his connection with the congregation. He said that the reason why the attendance had fallen off was because of tho appearance of carbuncles upon his body since July last, which prevented him from working as hard as he would have lilted. He made a personal attack on a pro-Boer member of the congregation, who replied, and another member was about to extend the controversy, when it was ended by the organist plaving the concluding voluntary. " WANGANUI, January 28. The teachers attending the Summer School to the number of about 200, participated in au up-river excursion this morning. At the Police Court Decimus Rowe, agent in Wanganui for the Adams Star Cycle Company, pleaded guilty to embezzling £67 odd, moneys of the company. There -were eight charges in alt. The accused was getting £3 10s a week and a commission of 14 per cent. Accused, in a written statement ta the company, confessed that his wages had been sufficient for his household expenditure, and none of the moneys appropriated had been spent on himself, wife, or honse, but that he had invested them on the totalisator at Wanganui, Feilding, Rangitikei, Palmerston, Auckland, and Woodvillc. Accused was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. GISBORNE, January 28. Instructions have again been received that all work on the local railway is to be stopped at the end of the current week.
