News has been received in Dunedin of the death of Mr George Cortes, who for many years visited New Zealand as representative of Messrs James Service and Co., of Melbourne.

The Rev. T. J. Wills, a prominent temperance leader, who died on Friday, was interred at Ormondville yesterday. There was a large funeral. Bishop Williams, Archdea,con William?, and Canon Webb officiated. The temperance workers were represented by the Rev. H. Miller. A London message* stated that Schmidt, a defaulting director of the Cassel Malt Company, has been arrested in Paris. Sister Elinor and Miss Jule Layton, of the Speech and Song Mission, since their last visit to Dunedin have conducted successful missions in Milton, Queenstown, and Arrowtown. During the holidays they rested at the Lakes, and thence they went (o Cromwell, where they conducted a mission. After visiting other towns they return to Dunedin, to be present at the opening nf the New Zealand Methodist Conference in Trinitv Church.

Mr "Frank Levy is in town making rangements for the appearance of the New Orleans Juvenile Minstrel Company, who give their first performance at the Agricultural Hall on Saturday. The company arrived in Netf Zealand by the Mokoia, and have since played to largo houses at Invercargill. They bear an excellent reputation.

A Melbourne message states that Lord Granville Gordon, the younger brother of the MarqUis of Huntly, has arrived there, en route for New Zealand.
