BATHING FATALITY.

Word was received at Port Chalmers yesterdav evening of the death of Mr Robert "Nelson C. Tennent, the elde.st son of the Rev. Mr Tennent, Presbyterian minister at Port Chalmers. Deceased was ,•• divinity student and missionary, and for ;• -hort time past had been laboring with ;..:.;.■:! acceptance in the Waikato district. As he was an expert swimmer, it is thought that he must either have been seized with cramp or struck himself while 1 diving in the river. The late Mr Tennent Was pressed of considerable literary power. He had written short stories for several Australian papers, and a contribution from his pen, entitled 'Jim's Girl' passrd through our pages last Easter. Much s'-mpathy is felt at the Port and elsewhere, where the sterling qualities of the deceased were well known, for the Rev. Mr Tennent and family in their bereavement. The flags at Port were half-masted to-day.
