EDUCATIONAL REFORM.
At- a meeting of the country teachers who attended the Dunedin Summer Classes the following resolutions were passed:— "That we suggest to the Teachc-' Institute the desirability of appointing as secretary of the Institute one who is not a member of the teaching profession." "That the Institute recommend to the Education Board to institute a system under which teachers would be promoted systematically, and that' to that end appointments should be made by the Board only. The, Committee to be consulted only by receiving the name of the appointee." "That it- be a recommendation to the Education Board that teachers be prohibited from canvassing members of school committees for appointment, either directly or indirectly." "That the Institute be requested to lecommend to the Board that all schools be graded; the salary of a teacher, in the event of his school falling below the grade, to remain unchanged till he is appointed to a superior position."
