THE OTAGO PATRIOTIC FUND.

The following is the report of the Otago Patriotic Fund Committee for the period 9th Angust, 1900, to 3Jst August, 1901: On the 9th August, 1900, Mr G. L. Denniston, hon. treasurer of the Patriotic Fund; handed over to the trustees the balance in his hands (£3,532 0s lid), and the Committee of the Otago and Southland Contingent also handed over £1,517 Is sd, the surplus in their hands. These amounts were at once deposited to the credit of tht trustees in accordance with the trust deed (a large portion being placed on F/D), and have siuce been supplemented by remittances from country committees and other donors, and also by interest earned. At that time the Committee arranged with Mr C. K. Smith to act as honorary secretary. During the period mentioned the Committee paid out tho sum of £2,513 14s lOd. All the men who have returned have (with one or two exceptions, where they have come back without tho secretary receiving advice of their movements) been received by a representative of the Committee, and their needs attended to; and returned troopers going through to other provinces have also received every attention at the hands of the Committee. Altogether 150 men, in addition to those who just received a trifle on landing, have received financial assistance; 122 of them have been furnished with an outfit. Ths Committee have, held twentysix meetings, and every case has been considered separately by them. The Committee are pleased to record the existence of a present balance of £3,129 19s 5d." Since the balance-sheet was' made up on tho 31st August about. £350 has been disbursed, leaving, roughly, about £2,800 in hand.'
