PERSONAL.

An Auckland message states that Sir G. M. O'Rorke expects to return to Wellington shortly. The Dunedin Builders' Association have forwarded the following to Mr S. H. Mirauis, on the occasion of his retirement from rhe service of the City:—"ln view of your retirement from public life, after so many years of active work, during which you rendered distinguished service to the City by the many public works you initiated, and which, under your able supervision, were carried to a successful issue, we des're to say that we recognise that it is largely due to your ability, foresight, and engineering skill that the arrangements of our City give s,iich general satisfaction, and win the admiration of visitors from other parts. As a section of the community, therefore, that has probably come into contact with you more than any other,, we- tak3 this opportunity of testifying to you of our high esteem for the efforts you displayed in all matters affecting the welfare of the City. We fully realise that at times your position was somewhat invidious, especially when the desires of the building public seemed to infringe on the rules of the Council; but, owing to the wisdom and consideration you gave to such affairs, matters were generally arranged to the satisfaction of all parties, and in the test interests of the City. We desire to express the hope that you may be long spared to enjoy your well-earned rest and the deserved honors 1 won during your thirtysix years' service as Dunedin's city engineer. Mr R. W. Penfold, of the Oamaru Post Office, has-been transferred to the Audit Department at Wellington.
