LAW DEBATING SOCIETY.

There was a large attendance of members at tie meeting of the society held in the Supreme Court Chamber Room on Wednesday evening. Mr J. M'Rae Gallaway presided, arid'the qrQabus item was an essay by Mr" J. R. Kirk:"The Practical Efficiency of Presentr-day Law Students.' The essayist, in the course of an elaborate argument,, contended that those presenting memselyes for admission as solicitors should be required to ;show on affidavit that, they had served for a term as law clerks—in the case of graduates for three years and in the case of others lor five years. The essay concluded by urging students; to allow, the subject of ethics to take-a more prominent part in their studies than it at present had. , Mr T. K. Sidev, 8.A.,LL.8., criticised the essay,' complimenting the essayist on the high tone Bhown in his treatment of his subject, and the abilitv with "which he dealt with it: Hethen proceeded to advocate the claims" of a law school, showing that in comparison with other professions the students of law were unfairly treated..
