(Put UmnD Paxaa Assocutxok.] ' AUCKLAND, July 11. Two miners—F. Hawkins and A. Nelson —were severely injured by an explosion of gelignite in the Woodstock mine. The Norwegian barque Norden, bound from Cape Town to Fiji, was wrecked .on a reef at Suva on June 27. The hull has been purchased by the Union Steam Ship Company, but there is little hope of floating the vessel. Tukino, chief of tho Ngatituharetoa tribe, has left for Wellington with a fine model of a Maori carved house, which he presented to the Duke. Maori addresses will be placed inside the house, which is to bo shipped to London. ’ WELLINGTON, July 11. No judgments werp given in the Appeal Court to-day, but the Bench sat at the _ Supreme Court to hear a motion re granting a license to the Hotel Commonwealth at New Plymouth. Tho ground of the objection is that what was done amount* to an .attempt to evade the provisions of the Licensing Acts relating to the renewal of licenses. A NEW ZEALANDER’S GOMM^SION. WELLINGTON, July U. News by the mail from the Cape state: that Mr Vernon Steward, a son of Major Steward, M.H.R., has accepted a commission in an Imperial regiment. THE CHRISTCHURCH SEAT CHRISTCHURCH, July 11. Messrs G. J. Smith, Charles Taylor, and A. H. Turnbull were nominated this mommg for the Christchurch vacancy. The total number on the roll is 17,268, which is 4,083 less than at last General Election.
