The Bank of England returns show the reserve to be £25,730,000 and the stock of gold coin and bullion to be £34,586,000, the proportion of reserve to liabilities being 50.8S per cent. The notes in circulation amount to £28,465,000; public deposits, £12,275,000 ; other deposits, £36,002,000; Government securities, £12,305,000; other securities, £30,851,000. Three months' bills are discounted at 3/; per cent. Consols are quoted at £96 10s.

Quotations for colonial Government stocks are subjoined, compared with those ruling at the close of last week :

The wheat markets are quiet and generally steady. French cargoes aro "firm. Victorian Februaiy and March shipments are quoted at 29s 9d; sailer parcels, 28s Cd.

Butter is very dull. Choicest colonial, 103s; Danish (recovering), 112s. Cheese; Fl&t. .New Zealand, 40s to 50s.

Sugar is steady. German, 9s ; first marks, granulated, 10s 10,\d. ' Copper: Quiet. Spot," £69 12s fid; three months, £7O 2s 6d.

Tin: Dull. Spot, £llß 5s ; .three months, £ll4 15s. Lead, £l3 ss. Spelter, £l6 10s.

The Bradford wool market is quiet. Common sixtiss., lSd ; super, lK}d. At tho London sales there was good competition : prices are unchanged. Silver, 2s 4 l-16d per ounce.
