WORK AND WAGES.

The award of th 9 Wellington Conciliation Board in the saw-millers' dispute was announced yesterday. The' principal recbmmendations are as follow:—That a week shall consist of forty-six hours ; that for men working planing machines the minimum wage be £2 15* per week ; men working circular saws, £2 Sj ; engine-drivers driving engines over five horse-power £3, and under five-horse-power £2 10s; yardsmen solely employed delivering timber, £3 ; minimum wage to unskilled workers in other capacities. £2 5»; casual labor, 8* 6d per day. The Board make the usual recommendations as to payment of overtime and holidays, and on the question of apprentices decide that each machinist be allowed one boy, whose wages shall commence at 12s 61 per week, with such gradual increase as shall be agreed upon.
