A GOVERNMENT INQUIRY.
TO THE EDITOR, Sl^~L ln y< ™ r Parliamentary notes I read a report by a Government inspector, in which there is a glowing account of the management oi an institution not many miles from Dunedin. He mentions in his roport that the agitation which was being pushed by a few e\attendants had blown over. The inspector does not say that instead of investigating the mattw*?i_ thout dela> '' as an )" 011e would suppose, that tho papers containing the complaints and names of the ex-attendants were sent to the institution in question, after which the inspector made a. pleasure trip to the place and straightened things up. If the- charges wero false, why did the proprietors and inspectors not push the inquiry on, such being necessary to clear themselves? The Government are also to blame for taking one man's word against that of eight attendants, only one of whom was dismissed; and so is the senior member for Dunedin, who, on being interviewed before the last election, promised that if re-elected ho would do everything in his powor to have an inquiry. Hoping the public will not be misled—l am, etc., Ex-Attendant. August 13. .... ....■
